How did you become interested in Golf?
“When I was like six years old my dad took me out to the golf course and he showed me how to hit the ball.”
So you dad was the one who introduced you to golf?
“Yea”
Who is your favorite professional golf player?
“I would have to say David Toms.
Why?
“He’s the underdog and he always did well. No one expected him to win. He’s just a great player.”
Who is your role model?
“Coach Perez. He’s always taught us how to do better. I respect him and he’s a great coach.”
How long has he been coaching you?
“He’s been the team coach for about five years. But he’s been my coach for two years.
How long have you been playing golf?
“Ten years.”
How long have you been on the Golf Team?
“I was on the team my sophomore and junior year because I was at Mast academy freshman year. I transferred after freshman year.”
Why?
“Because I did not like Mast and because I was missing my friends.”
Who is your coach?
“Michael Perez.”
Does he have experience playing golf?
“Yea. He’s a ten year veteran from our school.”
How many girls are on your team?
“There are currently no girls on the team.”
Are you guys looking for girls to join the team?
“We haven’t really talked about it. But uhhh there is no girls right now. So we aren’t really looking forward to it because its hard to find a full team with four girls.”
How many guys are on the team?
“Right now we have six guys on the team but only five play.”
What are the requirements for being on the team? Besides the 2.0 GPA
“You don’t have to qualify to be on the team. Anyone can be on the team. But to start you have to be one of the five players.”
When and how long are your practices?
“Miami Beach Golf Club, from three to six. Monday through Thursday.”
How far have you gone with golf?
“I placed fifth at districts. Team wise we tied for second.”
How far do you plan to go with golf?
“I would love to play in college but I don’t have expectations to play professionally.”
Are you expecting to get a scholarship?
“I don’t know. As of right now I wouldn’t but I’m going to work really hard off season.”
Do you have a diet?
“Not at all.”
Do you have to be fit to play golf?
“If your our of shape you wont be able to finish all eighteen holes. I mean anyone can walk the eighteen holes but carrying the heavy bag will get you tired.”
You don’t have a caddy?
“No you have to carry your own bag.”
What do you think about your golf team?
“I think we make a decent team. It’s better than I expected. Teams are already on different levels so we kinds know where we are going to place. At times we are much better than other teams and sometimes we’re not. ”
Do you have a team motto?
“No. Something we do have is that our team always fights in the van about who gets to ride shotgun. The player with the least amount of holes get shotgun on the way back.”
